Feilden+Mawson was commissioned to design Soul Church following a national design competition win. The Church received planning permission for a 5655m² multi use facility and church on Heartsease Lane and completed in March 2024.
The new Soul Church Building provides a mixed use of accommodation to support religious services through the use of the Auditorium and Chapel, Youth engagement through the Youth Hall and Bible Class areas, Education provision through Soul Nursery and School as well as the Play Barn, Café and Community Shop to support the local community. The various functions of the church are linked by a two storey internal ‘street’, that extends externally to connect the nursery provision and a prominent entry from Heartsease Lane. Soul Church is a community in its own right as well as a central hub for community engagement and support. Their enthusiasm for the project and the desire to build an “iconic, memorable building” that “would serve their congregation and community well into the future” was a strong ethos that engaged with everyone involved in the project.
Feedback has been incredibly positive, with Pastor Jon Norman “This building has been just a structure for the past two years, but it is now a sanctuary, a safe place, a space where you can dream to be the person God has called you to be. It is a gateway of hope and a place of good news”.
