A new two-storey building has been created with sensitivity to the adjacent housing in a residential area on the edge of Cambridge near Addenbrooke's Hospital. Part of the existing Edwardian laboratory building was demolished to allow for the insertion of the new block with basement into the tight site. A new link building connects back to the existing building with scientific offices and meeting rooms situated in the garden of the Old House.
Great importance was given to producing an energy efficient design with the use of a ventilated floor/roof structure and a high thermal mass construction.
