Capturing Humphry Repton's vision of an Arcadian landscape was central to Feilden+Mawson's winning proposal for the Culford School Cricket Pavilion. It is a composition of finely composed views that suggest an Arcadian notion of mankind in perfect harmony with nature.
Culford School is located in Culford Park (Grade II, 198ha) with Culford Hall (Grade II*) at is heart. Culford Hall is a C16 building with later additions, now largely constructed of white brick in the Italianate style. Within the park the Hall is the dominant structure although its landscape setting markedly reduces its impact on the immediate surroundings. Our proposal aimed to replace the existing pavillion on the same site and will be designed in accordance with the ECB standards. The concept followed the principles arising from the use of bridges in parklands. Specifically, the concept was for a contemporary design that frames the landscape beyond.
