Feilden+Mawson secured detailed planning permission for the expansion of this successful and respected Norfolk country house hotel and spa.
The parkland and garden setting of the hotel is a key part of its offer to guests, so preserving the landscape character of the site was the primary concern of the development proposal, planned around existing trees and accommodating existing populations of bats and great crested newts. A new spa building, 9 hotel-room cabins and 11 self-catering cottages fit within the hotel’s well-known herb garden, orchard and parkland, responding architecturally to the immediate surroundings. Extensions to the existing pool building alongside new car parking and staff facilities support the new provisions. A phased construction programme was tailored to maximise the trading potential of the hotel during expansion.
