Feilden+Mawson were commissioned by the Portman Estate to transform 2 Fitzhardinge Street into flexible high quality office space. The property is a Grade 2 listed Georgian townhouse in the heart of the Portman Estate conservation area. In its original state the property contained some fine rooms with a fair degree of intactness but other areas were of poor quality and with minimal daylight and heavily compromised by steelwork floor strengthening at an earlier date. The 6 storey's, including basement, were serviced from a single stair with a lantern over.
F+M designed a new service core to the rear of the property, including a new lift, and WC and teapoints on each level. The building was enhanced by the addition of a double storey atrium which brings light into the centre of the building on ground and basement levels. Visual connectivity was established between rooms while historic features were restored and reinstated where missing. The building was upgraded in terms of IT, comfort cooling and CAT 5 cabling running throughout.
