Komenius Square
It is fantastic to see these impressive evening shots of the newly completed Komenius Square in Dobris, Czech Republic. What was formerly a busy car park has been transformed into a calm pedestrian public square for the adjacent elementary school, post office and local businesses. The proposal has designed a fully step free unified surface with a large variety of seating. Lighting has been a key element to provide a safe environment during out of daylight hours.
Together with a network of carefully positioned iGuzzini LED light posts, additional ambiance lighting enhances areas of seating and lights up a newly restored memorial to fallen soldiers of WWI. A long green area with trees replaced a missing edge of the square, supported by a long bench which is very popular with school children and families. All trees are newly planted and are interconnected by long root bridges which act as collectors of all surface rainwater. Creating excellent ground conditions for trees to secure their long-life span was a key criterion of the design proposal.
