Basingstoke Golf Club has undergone a transformative refurbishment and extension, expertly balancing its historic character with the requirements of a modern golfing facility. Situated in a sensitive environment, the project required innovative solutions to address logistical and environmental challenges while respecting the building’s Victorian heritage. The design integrates modern functionality with the clubhouse’s historic fabric, ensuring accessibility, inclusivity, and enhanced facilities for members.
The south façade, the clubhouse’s public face, received special attention. Careful restoration of its deteriorated Dutch gable and the addition of new, proportionate gables created a cohesive and visually appealing elevation. Reclaimed materials, including bricks and roof tiles, were meticulously integrated with new elements, preserving the clubhouse’s character. The redesigned golfer’s entrance and terrace enhance accessibility, while the relocated female changing rooms, expanded kitchen, and improved bar facilities ensure the clubhouse meets contemporary needs without compromising its historic charm.
Internally, circulation has been improved with the addition of lifts, accessible facilities, and upgraded services, including modern heating systems and flood resilience measures. Sensitive restoration of original features, such as lockers and timber cladding, reflects the club’s dedication to maintaining its legacy. The refurbishment has been celebrated by members, with praise for the seamless blending of old and new.
