A Farewell to Philip Bodie

Having led the way in award winning designs and championed good designs within Feilden+Mawson, Philip Bodie is retiring from the Partnership.

Philip joined F+M as an Architect having returned to the UK after working in Brunei on 04 October 1999 and has been a Partner since 2004. During his time with F+M, he has led the Design Review Panel (DRP) on behalf of the Partnership, championing our Quality Assurance efforts across the practice.

From the onset he sought to distinguish himself on delivering good architecture, working on the Gorleston Innovation Centre followed by Norfolk & Waveney Enterprise Services Innovation Centre and Dukes Wharf, a 250,000 m2 mixed commercial and residential redevelopment of a riverside site in central Norwich. Philip oversaw the project which obtained full planning permission in 2008 for Targetfollow; a project that was sadly never realised.

Among Philip’s award-winning designs were,

The Boathouse, Nene Waterfront 2006 – 2009 for Fenland District Council; it won the RIBA East Award

King’s Lynn Innovation Centre 2014 – 2016 for NWES. Better known as KLIC; it won RICS Craftsmanship Award

Academic Centre, University of Buckingham 2014 – 2018 for University of Buckingham

Additionally, Philip led the Acle Bridge National Park & Education Centre 2018 – 2019 entry for the Broads Authority, working with Pavel Nasadil. Feilden+Mawson’s competition winning design was to provide the Broads with a new ‘Gateway’.

Since 2014, Philip managed the Norwich office and always saw himself as a champion for the Norwich staff, seeking to encourage the best from them and where he could, advocate the good processes learnt through the RIBA Project Management course.

Philip took great pride in Norfolk Architecture, taking on the role of President of the Norfolk Association of Architects for many years and outside of work also raised £100k+ for the Suffolk Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust as their Chairman.

On their next adventure, Philip and Sarah Bodie will be travelling to New Zealand to visit their daughter and we wish them bon voyage and all the best for life after F+M. We look forward to welcoming him back to the design studio to use his keen eye to mentor our future architects and designers! We thank him for his vast contributions to F+M and wish him all the best in his next chapter of life.
